Unknown group of children

I'm not sure who is in this photo. I'm guessing that the little girl in the front may be Nova Haugh, the boy in the second row on the left could be Tom Haugh, and the girl in the middle of the back row could be Alice Haugh based on other photos (like the one in the previous posting). If you want to see a larger version, please click on the photo itself. If you have some information to share, please click on the Comments link. Thanks!

Nova, Jim, Ray, Tom, Tom, John, and Virgil

This is a photo in which my mother, Nova Madeline Haugh, identified herself (what a cutie), Jim, Ray (my great uncle), and Tom (my uncle) Haugh in the front row. In the back row are Tom (my great grandfather), John Kufer, and Virgil, my grandfather. I'm unsure of Jim Haugh, whom she also identifies in the photo for January 4, in which my uncle, Tom, appears to be the same age as Jim. In this photo, Tom looks a few years older. Click on the photo to see a larger version. Please click on comments if you can tell me whether the young boy is Jim Haugh, Ray's son, or someone else. Also, I have no information on John Kufer's relationship to the family. As a friend? Thanks!

Myrtle and Virgil

Here is a photo of what appears to be Myrtle and Virgil Haugh, my grandparents, with one of their children. Compared to the first photo in this blog, their dress here appears to be from a later period, but may it is simply casual clothing from the same time. Any idea of when the photo may have been taken? Any idea who the baby is?

I'm also not sure what the location for the photograph is. It appears that construction is going on. Would this be a house? A building at Meadowbrook Park in Bascom?

Please click on the photo for a larger version and comments to post information you might have.

The Unidentified Couple Again

Here is another photo of what looks to be the same couple (much younger) from the previous posting. They were pictured in an earlier posting with Tom and Della Haugh, and the woman resembles Tom's twin sister, Alice, but I cannot confirm if this is Alice. She supposedly married someone named Gassman. Please click on the photo itself for an enlargement and click on comments if you know who they are and can tell me. Thanks!

Another Picture of Jan. 8 Couple

Here is another picture of the couple with Della and Tom in the picture posted Jan. 8. I don't know if they are his twin sister, Alice, and her husband. Please click on the photo for a larger version and click on comments if you can tell me who they are.

Lookout Mountain

This is a photograph of Ray Haugh, my great uncle, at Lookout Mountain in Tennessee. I’m not sure how they all climbed up those rocks in their long coats and dresses. Regardless, they remind me of some tourists in Hawaii, who went past the warning signs to pose for pictures on some craggy rocks while the ocean waves beat at their feet. I suppose the purpose of a vacation is to feel you’re alive!

I’m not sure who are the other people in the photo. None of them look like Ray’s wife, Mercedes. Click on the photo itself to see a larger version. If you can identify anyone else, please click on the comments link and let me know what you know. Thanks!

Della, Tom and Another Couple

Here is a picture of my great grandmother, Della, and my great grandfather, Tom, along with another couple. This couple has appeared in several photographs over a period of time. The woman looks a great deal like Tom's twin sister, Alice, as pictured in another family photo of Tom and his siblings, but I'm not sure if it is she. Mom wrote in some notes that Alice married someone named Gassman, but I can't confirm this.

Please click on the photo itself to view a larger version of it. If you can identify them, please click on the comments link and let me know who this mystery couple is! Thanks!

Group with Ray and Tom

Here are two pictures likely taken the same sitting. Tom is sitting in the first row second from the right and Ray is standing behind him. My guess is that the woman to the left of Ray is his wife, Mercedes, and they are holding their children, whose names I do not know. I'm not sure who the others are, but some of them have appeared in other photos. The quality of this photo isn't great even after making some minor adjustments to it in Photoshop.

In the second photo Ray is sitting down to the far right. Tom is seated second from the right. Mercedes is likely the woman with the child in the middle of the back row.

Virgil, Ray, Tom, Della, and Others

Here is a picture in which no one looks especially happy! Must be after working in the fields. Here is Virgil, Ray, Tom, and Della Haugh. My nephew Cory looks just like Virgil in this photo. The two people on the right are unidentified.

Please click on the photo to enlarge it. If you can identify these two, click on the comments link.

Alice, Tom, Joe, Jeanette, and Nova

Here is the photo I used to help me identify Virgil and Myrtle's children in the Family Reunion 2 posting. They are, as the title states, Alice Haugh, Tom Haugh, Joe Heckart, Jeanette Haugh and, my mother, Nova Haugh.

Having a couple of photos with people identified has really helped identify them in other photos. I'm glad Mom identified those that she did, but it would have been great if they were all done!

Five Boys at Reunion

Here is a photo of five boys taken, I'm guessing, at the same family reunion shown in the last posting. My mother identified them as all Haughs: Jim, Dick, John, Paul, and Tom. Tom was Virgil's son, but I don't remember whose sons the others are. If you know, please click on the comments link and type in that information. Thanks!

Family Reunion 2

Here is another photo of a family reunion. Please click on the photo to see a larger version of it.

Virgil Haugh is in the back row third from the right. In front of him in black is, I think, Myrtle Haugh, his wife. Of the group of children in front of her on the ground, the girl in the sleeveless top is their daughter, Jeanette. The boy next to her looks like her brother, Thomas, and the girl next to him their sister, Alice. The baby is likely my mother, Nova. I'll put in a photo in which my mother identified them all and which helped me identify them here in a future posting. It's likely, then, that this photo is from around 1924.

Ray Haugh is in the back row second from the left and his dad, Thomas, is third from the left next to him.

The boy in the first row fourth from the left is John Haugh and the boy to the right is Paul Haugh. The boy to the left could be Jim Haugh, but it's hard to see his face. In the group of children to the left of Alice, the boy on the far right could be Dick Haugh. I'm guessing at this information based on a photo of five boys, which my mother identified. I'll post that photo next. I don't recall whose sons they are at this point.

Please let me know if you can identify anyone else by clicking on the comments link.

Possibly Virgil

My mother wasn't sure who is in this photo, but she thought it might be Virgil Haugh. Without a clear view of the face and period-specific clothing, it's hard to say who it is or when this picture might have been taken.

Please click on the photo itself to a larger version. If you know who this is, please click on the comments link and let me know! Thanks!

Haugh Men

Here is a photo of Haugh men and others yet to be identified. In front on the left is Tom Haugh and his sons appear in the second row: Ray on the far left, Garfield second from the right, and Virgil on the far right. The other gentlemen in the picture are not identified, but they appear in other photos, namely the one for entry "Virgil in a Group of 13."

Here is another picture of some of the same men and likely from the same sitting as the first photo. Unfortunately, as you can see, part of the picture was torn away and is lost. Virgil is on the far left and Ray next to him. The other three men are unidentified.

Please click on a photo itself to get a slightly larger version and click comments to add information about the other gentlemen in this picture. Thanks!

Family Reunion or Community Photo

Here is a photo that looks to be either a family reunion or a community photo. Please click on the photo itself to see a larger version of it.

Virgil Haugh is in the third row and eighth from the left. He's hold his hat in his right hand. Ray Haugh is to the right. Their mother, Della Haugh, appears to be just behind Virgil and slightly to the left. Their father, Tom Haugh, appears to be slightly to the right of the white post on the far right the picture.

If you can identify anyone else, note the person's location in the photo and name.

Virgil in a Group of 13

In this photo Virgil is in the back row on the far right. To his right is Ray Haugh. Unfortunately, the original of this is kind of blurry.

Bascom Band

Here's a picture of the Bascom Band. Virgil is in the first row and the second from the left. I was surprised to see what looks like a clarinet in his hand. Both of my sisters and I played clarinet in school!

It's been awhile as you can tell from the dates. Soon after classes started, I neglected this blog, but I'm hoping to make a fresh start with the new year approaching! Although I have some other photos of Virgil's family, I'm going to start posting photos containing unidentified people. My mother identified people in some of the family photos, but we never finished all of them. She passed away the very weekend we were going to sit down and go through the rest. This first round includes photos with people she could not or simply did not identify. If you have any information on any of these photos, feel free to post it here by clicking on the comment link! Click on the photo itself to see a slightly enlarged version.

This photo is of the United Brethren Sunday School. Virgil Haugh is on the far right in the front row. It appears Ray Haugh is second from the right in the front row. The others are unidentified. If you know anyone else in the photo, please provide the name, row and location (third from the left, etc.). Thanks!

Virgil Haugh

My grandfather was Virgil Haugh, son of Thomas Franklin Haugh and Della (Creeger) Haugh. Here is a picture of him as a young man. I didn't know my grandfather well because he died when I was just four years old, but I do remember his cheerful smile.

Welcome!

Link
Welcome to this blog on the Ohio Haughs, especially in Seneca County. My grandfather was Virgil Haugh, who married Myrtle Haugh. Together they had five children: Jeanette, Alice, Thomas, Nova (my mother) and Jack. Nova was also known as Madeleine or Babe. Here is a picture of Virgil, Jeanette and Myrtle. Here is a link to the Haugh family crest.
